update July 26, 2004

For me, the passing of a great grandfather was a total devestation to me. I am Bruce McNicol's grandaughter, the daughter of Kevin McNicol. My grandpa was a very good man, who cared alot about his wonderful family and friends. He was known for his kind heart and generosity. It still is a shock that he has passed on, but he will always stay in my heart and never be fogotton.
RACHEL MCNICOL

I am saddened to read this Memorial just today about "Mr McNicols" as I knew him. We were close neighbours in N Van. His sons Kevin, Chris and I were best of friends through many of our younger years. And I can say this for his sons. They worshiped the ground their Dad walked on for who he was and what he did. And to say otherwise would be asking for a swift neighbourly scrap.

Mr McNicol was a very kind and interesting man. And a very very cool neighbour to have. A race car in the back yard and all. Hey that was and is very cool for us boys in the hood in the early 70's I spend lots of time at the McNicols and I am a better man for it.

My sincere condolences to Keven, Chris and family.

Sad to here about the passing of Bruce McNicol one of my racing heros when i was a kid.I use to go to N.Van just to buy stuff from The Speed Shop but my connection with him was away from the track.A few years later he walks into my speed shop as my sales rep from a perf. warehouse and I use to actually look forward to his sale calls what a character. Most people can't stand salesmen but with him the lunches, dinners, etc was always an event to earn these rewards I can't remember how many times I would get a call from him on the phone to say if his boss calls he was just there or I had missed him but he left a note saying he was coming back but he was actually in another town and hadn't left yet. Those were fun days when the performance business needed guys like Bruce and they don't make sales like that anymore! My condolences to Chris,Kevin and the McNicol Family

Received sad news yesterday that a local name racer past away last Saturday. Bruce McNicol, of the famed Taylor Soon & McNicol stockers (60's and 70') suffered a heart attack while in California.
Bruce, with his partners Tom Taylor and Doug Soon, garnered six national records during their partnership. In those days, a national record was usually the quickest that any car could go in that class.
Bruce's sons race as well. Kevin, who ran for some years at Mission Raceway Park, and Chris, who crewed for some of the biggest names in fuel racing, (Beck, Cruz, Minor, etc) is now campaigns a S/Comp. racers out of Calif. and was runner up at this year's national event in Sonoma.
I believe a memorial service is slatted for some time next week.

So sad to hear about Bruce's passing, I raced many years ago at the old track against the Taylor/McNicol cars, bought a lot of parts from his race shop in North Vancouver and got to know him fairly well through the years at the track. Also seeing his son Chris at the race track when myself and Dave Richardson would do the national tour fom Seattle to California. I also now buy a lot of parts from his great son Kevin who works at Lordco Performance. Bruce had a lot of impact on the racing scene here in the northwest and put this division on the performance map with his ability to make a 283 Impala fly. It is a sad loss for all that knew him and a real loss for the people who loved him and for the people who never met him will never know want they missed in a real racing legend from our corner of the world. My deepest condolences to the McNicol Family.

When in Vegas a couple of weeks ago an old friend took the time to get out of his car hunt me down and share a few laughs. Chris McNicol and I had a great talk. He laughed about everybody bugging him about him wearing full-length jeans as he lives in shorts. I told him he was now officially a Californian, as us Canucks had no problem with the temps that night at LVMS. Chris told me about former racer Dave Hamoline who now lives up the BC coast running an oyster farm. He also told me of a recent visit with his dad, andhe ended it by saying HH was one of his regular daily web sites.

I would like to pass along my deepest condolences my friend. I never had the pleasure of meeting Bruce McNicol, but from the pride in which you always spoke of him knew he must have been a pretty special guy.
