So as Denise wandered off for some of that famous NorCal bottled water, I actually found the time to turn around and have a look at the pits from the top row. All of a sudden there it is. Right in front of me. The tent.
I look over at the guys just down from me. That guy is Ski, I'm certain of it. Don't know who any of the others may be...hmmmm let me guess. None of 'em could be Sorenson, they're all either too straight or too radical looking. This guy sounds middle-of-the-road to me. Then I hear one of them yell "Ewald"... and this guy comes up the stairs. That must be Ewald...duh. Well there's downtime, I'm off to the tent. First guy I meet is Sorenson. Wow, had that face wrong. Guy is as cool as ever and introduces me to enough people that I forget nearly every other name and face. This was only about hour three, and it's been a little mind-boggling up to and including this point. I know I must act quick so actually got four of the guys to go back up into the empty stands for a quickie interview. It goes pretty good, as you shall soon see and hear in the final chapter of this report. But first Iasked Jim "where is the flag". He walked me around to the south end and pointed up:
I want to go see Tuttle's car, and get directions from
a bunch of people. As we get there, he's in and ready to fire. Good
timing Pfister. We get a cool sequence of this very stout running piece. Out of the pits and we go back down the same row we came up earlier. It's even more full of cars, there's far less people, I'm missing something cool out on the track, and to make matters even worse we gotta start thinking about leaving.Where do we go now? I make the fateful decision to skip the race car pits...I know, I know. I had to make a decision.
Besides, there's Mazmanian's Stingray looking very good...here
comes the fast Eddie '65 Comet - one that I was unaware of previously.
Take your kid for a RIDE...Nunes' Stingray ran as good as it looked.
It took us a long time to get over there, but the hustle was worth it. |
