Nitro Bikes Run In Sixes at MRP

A rainout on the weekend of May 1 & 2 delaying the Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association's 1999 Season Opener did nothing to dampen a great event here this weekend The finest field of drag racing two wheelers Mission Raceway has ever seen put on a fantastic show, with records shattered, wild, squirrly runs, and a top fuel final that was simply unreal.

For complete results please go to the Official CMDRA Page hosted by our friend J. Glenn.

The coolest drag bike on Earth is Jim Gauthier's Alien. It's a one-of-a-kind roots supercharged, nitrous-assisted gasoline Harley Davidson, with the largest tire most of us have ever seen on a drag bike. This launch was a brief one. Up, out and off. It didn't last long, but with that magical Optura we don't miss a stroke.

This guy did this twice on Sunday.

First nitro race of the day was between Surrey's Dave O'Hara on the far side against the first 200mph Canadian Fueler of Ken Kent from Edmonton. O'Hara advanced with a great .507/7.383/163.01 to Kent's close .532/7.393/185.72.

This is the round one of Pro Fuel. the Kirkland, Wa. based bike of Jeff Carney faced off with Kristine Becker on the farside. Becker moved on despite her being behind here with a 8.43/159.26 when Carney had to back off when he got close to the left wall resulting in a slowing 9.08/123.18. While many felt P/F was new record holder Steve Heinder's to win, the lady from Everett took the class title when Heinder developed a considerable 'leak' on his final round burnout.

Pro Fueler Steve Heindner out of Marysville could have been number two qualifier in Top Fuel as he took a third of a second off the existing record with a 7.111/175.67 qualifying blast, then lowered it to 7.09/177.97 in this round one win.

The first guy in the sixes for 1999 was Ron Houniet, with a second round 6.94/197.36 that I'm saving for video...it's that good! A quick trip down the extreme left side of the left lane against Robin Gauthier in the final was a true balls-to-the-wall effort that resulted in an amazing 7.50/177.23 runner-up finish.

You can never count this guy out. After qualifying third at 7.462, then two round wins, both 7.25s, I figured Houniet was in no danger. WRONG! An awesome 6.957/191.89 final round run by Robin Gauthier was testimony to this team's skill.
