PAGE, ELLIS TAKE WINS AT FIREBIRD
BOISE, Idaho. Sean Page of Boise, Idaho, lead the pack of winners today for the more than $210,000 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series 38th Annual Napa Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Dan Wiebold Ford at Firebird Raceway. Page took the win in Top Dragster covering the quarter mile in 7.803 seconds at 170.61 mph over Mike Henderson of Tacoma, Wash.
Alan Ellis joined Page in the winners circle taking the win in Comp Eliminator in his 23 roadster when Adam Bowdish of Oregon City, Ore., fouled at the start with a red light. Ellis ran out his pass at 10.380 seconds.
In the Pro Nitro class it was Jack Harris with the best run of the weekend with a Firebird Raceway track record and a crowd pleasing 5.694 second run at 252.73 mph.
The Northwest Division Stock champion Brad Plourd won in Super Stock beating out Steve Polack of Enumclaw, Wash., and Mike Ferderer drove his K&N Filters sponsored 05 Grand Am to the win in Super Gas holding off Rodney Lee with a 10.253 second lap to Lees quicker 10.179.
A pair of Boise, Idaho racers won in the Pro and Super Pro classes with Randy Williamson out running Duane Noe in his 72 Vega for the win in Pro and Ryan Cook was victorious over Derric Barr of Nampa, Idaho, traveling the 1320 quarter mile in 7.866 seconds at 119.74 mph in Super Pro.
Rounding out this weekends winners were Kelly Thomas of Auburn, Wash., defeating Mary Ann Method in Stock; Aaron Kinard of San Marcos, Calif., did the same against Steve Williams in Super Comp; Nikki Cannon fell short to Dudley Gee of Canby, Ore., in Super Street; Mo Rider earned the win in Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson on a 97 Kawasaki over Jacob Wood of Boise, Idaho; and Robert Matthews of Gig Harbor, Wash., beat Randy Johnson in his 67 Nova in the Auto Max USA Top Sportsman class where he was the event runner-up one year ago.
Northwest Division racers head to Mission Raceway Park in Mission, B.C., for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, May 23-25.

RECORD SETTING DAY AT FIREBIRD
BOISE, Idaho. Qualifying wrapped up today for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series 38th Annual Napa Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Dan Wiebold Ford with 31 NHRA national records being set along with the Firebird Raceway Track record in AA/Fuel Dragster.
The 31 records were split between racers in the Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, and Stock classes. Eighteen racers in all set elapsed time (e.t.) records with thirteen of those also setting the mph records in their respective classes. The 31 mark is just three shy of the NHRA Northwest Division record of 34 set seven years ago here at Firebird Raceway.
Boise, Idaho, racer George Phillips topped the Super Stock records in SS/HA with a run of 10.55 seconds at 126.15 mph. The previous records were 10.75 seconds and 120.00 mph.
Jack the Sheriff Harris of Paso Robles, Calif., reset the Firebird Raceway track e.t. record in AA/Fuel Dragster with a lap of 5.694 seconds at 252.73 mph. The old record was held by Brad Thompson at 5.83 seconds. Joining Harris in the pro nitro class is Howard Haight of Brownsburg, Ind., clocking in at 6.208 seconds, 239.55 mph.
In qualifying efforts it was Rob Harrison of North Vancouver, B.C., on top in Comp Eliminator with a run of 7.846 seconds in his 05 Cavalier and Jeff Lane grabbed the top spot in Super Stock at 8.815 seconds in his 08 Cobalt.
Frank Tamez held onto the No. 1 spot in the Auto Max USA Top Sportsman class followed by Baker City Ore., resident Wayne Ryder in his 55 pickup. Tamez ran 7.000 seconds at 199.42 while Ryder ran a lap of 7.329 at 180.93 mph. Ken Ratzloff of Idaho Falls, Idaho, landed in the No. 5 spot with a lap of 7.582, 181.74.
Boise, Idahos own Jim Lambert grabbed the top spot in the Sportsman Motorcycle class presented by Harley Davidson with a perfect 0.000 second reaction time. Greg Carlile and Don Forester round out the event leaders taking the top qualifying position in Top Dragster and Stock Eliminator respectively. Carlile leads Top Dragster running 6.707 seconds at 197.97 mph while Forester, of Riverside, Calif., ran his 80 Delta 88 to a time of 12.000 seconds.
Racing continues Sunday at 9 a.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. and Pro Nitro is set for 1 p.m. Tickets are $20. Children 6-12 are just $5 and kids 5 and under are free. BOISE, Idaho In the first rounds of qualifying at Firebird Raceway and the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series 38th Annual Napa Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Dan Wiebold Ford, Comp Eliminator driver Randy Jones and Super Stock racer Jeff Lane took the No. 1 qualifying positions in their classes.
Jones of Monarch Beach, Calif., leads the field with a 9.127 second pass followed by Adam Bowdish of Oregon City, Ore., in his 89 Trans Am. Dan Barton of Post Falls, Idaho, currently sits in the No. 4 position in Comp. Lane posted a lap of 8.898 seconds in his 08 Cobalt.
Local runner Wayne Ryder of Baker City Ore., landed in the No. 2 spot in the divisions Auto Max USA Top Sportsman class behind No. 1 qualifier Frank Tamez of Yakima, Wash. Tamez ran 7.015 seconds at 198.01 mph in his 07 Mustang with Ryder clocking in at 7.329 seconds in his 55 pickup. Ken Ratzloff of Idaho Falls, Idaho, is fifth in his 53 Studebaker
A pair of Idaho riders qualified one and two in the Sportsman Motorcycle series presented by Harley Davidson. However, they were both aboard snowmobiles as they are allowed to compete in the motorcycle class. Boise, Idaho, resident Jim Lambert qualified on top with a perfect reaction time of 0.000 seconds on his 02 Artic Cat followed by David Wood of Eagle, Idaho, with a time of 0.001 seconds.
Rounding out todays action was Hal Sorensen taking the honors in Stock Eliminator and Greg Carlile of Lake Stevens, Wash., in Top Dragster. Sorensen ran 10.171 in his 69 Camaro and Carlile covered the quarter mile in 6.707 seconds at 197.97 mph. Rod Langley and Cody Hiatt, both of Boise, Idaho, qualified 16th and 21st respectively in Top Dragster with Langley running 7.398 seconds and Haitt sitting at 7.494 seconds.
Racing continues Saturday at Firebird Raceway. Gates open at 8 a.m. with racing set to kick off at 9 a.m. Pro Nitro qualifying is scheduled for 1 and 5 p.m. highlighted by Jack the Sheriff Harris in his Nitro Thunder AA/Fuel Dragster coming off a win at the recent NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series 50th March Meet in Bakersfield, Calif. Tickets are $20. Kids 6-12 are just $5 and toddlers 5 and under are free. The track is located on Highway 16, five miles north of Highway 44.
