Thunder in the Alberni Valley August 13/45, 2005

Thanks to Moe Jones who along with Mission starter Steve Manning, his lovely wife Diane and righthand man Al Starchuck, made the trip over to the Island last weekend for the annual Thunder in the Alberni Valley airport drags. Almost 250 entries showed up including the Canada West Doorslammers to put on another wild show for thousands upon thousands of drag-crazy Van Islers! Here's a few pics Jones was kind enough to pass along.

It's converted over starting late Friday night and is back to a working airport by Sunday night!

Cool room tower was a popular place.

Thanks to temps over 30C and air conditioning.

How 'bout Brent Harris coming all the way down from Edmonton to battle with Shoebox guy Duane Grosart!

Bob McKernan (far) upset Grant Howell in round one of Doorslammer.

Terry Spargo (far) got by Dave Warren in opening round.

Round one also saw 2004 Champion Dean Peterson in his Mustang moved past Shane Wanger's Camaro.

Round two saw Peterson get the best of Terry Langdon-Davies Willys.

The Olds of Lane Wooley lost to eventual winner Craig Donaldson of Victoria.

TCS main-man Bobby Marshall qualified one atop 18 car field at 7.62, was stopped by Donaldson in semis.

Hemi powered Fiat of Nanaimo's Brent Murray.

First to 200 on Van Isle, Leon Aines never misses this show.

And what's a couple of days at the digs on Van Isle without a little nitro?!
