FASTEST STREET CAR SHOUTOUT 2001, Budweiser Motorsport Park, Edmonton, Alberta, August 11, 2001

Our second event of the year was extremely successful. Perfect weather, great competitor car count and lots of spectators. Draggin Don Murray put on a show for Edmonton’s drag racing fans. Don ran a number of 8.20 passes at over 170 MPH. Budweiser Motorsport Park’s racing surface isn’t exactly a national event caliber track which makes it very tough to get a high powered short wheelbase car like Don’s Corvette down the track with a full on Nitrous pass. But Don was not to be denied. For his last pass of the day Don laid down a 7.82 at only 153 MPH. For those of your doing your math at home. If Don could have stayed with the run for the full quarter mile; Don would have been in the 7.50’s.

Don’s competition was Grant Flaig who made the haul from southern Alberta with his beautiful Pro Street Camero. Grant was fresh off a win in Lethbridge’s annual 100 yard dash. Once a year the city of Lethbridge shuts down one of the main streets in Lethbridge and it’s run what you brung for 100 Yards and Grant was the man to beat.

Dale Pederson brought down his ultra clean 400 cu. in.twin turbo Buick to compete in Super Street. Basically Dale had everyone in the Superstreet class covered by running low 9’s at over 155MPH. And no doubt if the competition was running as quick as him we would have seen Dale dial up the boost on his turbos and run even faster.

All in all a great day of Drag Racing at Budwieser Motorsport Park

.
The JB’s Power Centre team would like to thank all the competitors and spectators for coming out to support both of our events this year. We are already making plans to run two events in Edmonton next year and are working on running a two race series at Race City in Calgary. We anticipate having a complete set of class rules and race information posted on our web site www.jbspowercentre.com by the end of October 2001.
