FEDERAL-MOGUL FUNNY CAR IMAGES

Pat was out on Bateman in the final .448 to a .482 and stayed there to take the win with a 5.77/248.45 run as the Alberta driver shut down and coasted through at 6.54.

Bucky began the year as the guy to beat in this class, now Pat Austin is pouring it on as the season progresses.

Mike Austin gives brother a 'You da MAN' smile prior to this run.

The crew readies maybe the most powerful blown alky car anywhere.

Speaking of power, the MOPAC Showdown team came to S.I.R. loaded as a 250mph qualifier proved.

A potentially great semi saw Bateman get by a troubled Bucky with a 5.78/244.

But this is the race everyone was talking about, the semi-final matchup between John Weaver and Pat Austin. The red car won the quickest (and probably fastest too) side-by-side race in FMFC history with numbers of .465/5.633/251.93 for Austin to a .506/5.644/250.63 run for the Dream Weaver car.

It was great to see Mardel Weaver here looking as beautiful as ever. I recall a great interview I did with her at a sand drag event at Mission during the mid 80s for a local cable program called Motorsport People.

da Hitter

da Car

da Burnout

Weaver and Giuliani had to wait over an hour after a major oildown.

Mike was laying down the best burnouts of the event, long, smoky and often just sideways enough to put on a show.

Later on Saturday he had to do some 'driving' after Weaver became another lane-change victim.

Tough luck for John Hyland as the team had to pull out after breaking all their parts. Hopefully they'll be back at Woodburn.

Note the bit of flame under the car and part just above the left side of the roof hatch.

For a brief moment I got this rare shot of Mitch Myer and Dan McGlone (4th qualifier 5.753/242.98) with no crew people around.

Myers qualified 6th at 6.01/228.75.

And watched as McGlone took out a few cones in this Saturday qualifier.

The MilkMobile of Russ Parker is still struggling...nice piece in digger a few weeks back though explains how difficult this alky flopper deal really is.

Clint Thompson made the show in the seven spot with a 6.041/232.23.

Once again Cofini's front wheels were in the air.
